Ever since HP introduced the Halo Collaboration Suite (see WRB #0642, 12/20/05), the technology giant has been on the periphery of the videoconferencing industry. HP is one of the world’s leading providers of IT services, a major channel partner for Microsoft, and during 2009 became a reseller of first Tandberg and then, following Tandberg’s acquisition by Cisco, HP became a reseller of Polycom reseller as well.

In June of 2010, HP's Halo business unit signed on to sell HP-branded videoconferencing products based on SVC solutions from industry upstart Vidyo.  This research note reviews HP’s newly revised stance in the videoconferencing industry, and evaluates how the company’s moves will affect the market overall and HP's partners in specific.
